Good thing this wasn't a New Year's resolution....

Dec 28, 2008

I know I said I would avoid the Internet (specifically Facebook, IM and blogging) over my vacation, but I'm home sick today. Ok, and if I'm truly being honest, I must admit I did spend a little bit of time on Facebook yesterday, but only a few minutes, I promise.

In case you're thinking I've been having a miserable time here due to my mysterious illness, you are terribly mistaken. When I arrived at the airport in Victoria, Jenni greeted me with a homemade sign and a huge hug. We bundled up and piled into her dad's car, and took a mini tour of the city. Although the local time was around 11PM for the Victoria natives, this east coast girl understandably felt  like it was 3AM.

After seeing the parliament building decked out in Christmas lights, we headed home. Jenni had made up the mini couch thing in her room for me. I felt like I was climbing into a nest and warm blankets.

The next morning, we had homemade sourdough waffles and went to Jenni's workplace, her dad's pub. I acted as a food runner, rolling silverware, cleaning tables, chatting up customers and helping bring things from the kitchen. It was so much fun.

Then yesterday, we picked up Jenni's friend Syd (who came in from Vancouver) and headed downtown. We drank coffee in a cute little coffee shop, scoured the boutiques and did some vintage shopping. I made out like a bandit.

After a long day, we hopped in a cab and went to the Superior cafe for some wine and dinner. It was fabulous. I couldn't get over the fact that our waiter was wearing a kilt. Who does that?

We planned on going out later that night, but my cold came back and we were forced to buy niquil and call it a night.

Right now, Jenni's back at the pub for the day with Syd, and I'm home watching movies and recovering. Hopefully I'll feel better tomorrow so I can see more of Victoria!

I just curled up in Jenni's big bed and watched Roman Holiday...nothing like old movies and tea to scare away a cold.

I think Audrey Hepburn is absolutely beautiful. She reminds me so much of my mom. I only wish she and the reporter had ended up together at the end of the film, but I guess that's a little too much to ask for.
